{"id":548,"date":"2011-07-15T16:51:37","date_gmt":"2011-07-15T22:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.diomederacing.com\/?p=548"},"modified":"2011-09-23T18:05:15","modified_gmt":"2011-09-24T00:05:15","slug":"june-smri-race-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/15\/june-smri-race-day\/","title":{"rendered":"June SMRI Race Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you are setting up your pit at 7am and you are already hot and sweating you know it\u2019s going to be one really HOT day.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a fan of racing on days with 100 degree temps, but ya gotta do what cha gotta do.\u00a0 Next year, the club may want to rethink running the new config during the hottest months of the year.\u00a0 It\u2019s so much work to ride, and doing it when it\u2019s so hot, is really not ideal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I had planned on running in 5 races, but the last one of the day was the Formula Femme was a no go since I was the only female.\u00a0 Bummer.\u00a0 As it turns out I only did 3 races, decided that if I did the 4<sup>th<\/sup> one that I might not make it home. I don\u2019t like racing when it\u2019s that hot out, I still believe that we should only do 6 races and take off at least one month during the summer.\u00a0\u00a0 Down to business, racing recap.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Race #1 for me was the Am Super Twins.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s my first year running this class and it has the most number of bikes in it.\u00a0 Normally, Daryl runs my \u2018B\u2019 bike and I ride the \u2018A\u2019 bike.\u00a0 However I didn\u2019t get the forks back in time for the B bike to be ride able.\u00a0 So Daryl rode is street SV in the race.\u00a0 I was back to less the awesome launches for this one.\u00a0 I ended up into the first turn in 7<sup>th<\/sup> but by the time we completed the first lap I\u2019d moved back up to fifth and that\u2019s where I stayed.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t able to get around Daryl. Which was just sad, since he was riding that acient SV of his that had half the horse power of mine, but he\u2019s got some great defensive lines and is really hard to pass.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Race #2 was the Am GTU race, this one is back to back with the ST race.\u00a0 Not the best scheduling on such a hot day.\u00a0 I did at least remember to take a bottle of water to pit out so that I could down it between the races.\u00a0 Not sure I would have finished the second one if I hadn\u2019t done that.\u00a0 As it was it was a hard race for me, I managed a decent launch, and I knew that I had someone right behind me for most of the laps.\u00a0 He kept trying to put a wheel up the inside and I worked very hard to keep him behind me.\u00a0 But, as the pace picked up I started to bottom out the forks coming through the new first turn.\u00a0 Finally, it bottomed out so hard that I thought I might end up going off the track.\u00a0 So that\u2019s when I lost third place and had to settle for fourth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Race # 3 was Novice GTU,\u00a0 I had the pole position and I got the hole shot, however with the forks now bottoming out every lap.\u00a0 I fell into second and then on the next lap I fell back to third in the same spot.\u00a0 With the guy in first now far enough gone I knew I wasn\u2019t going to catch him.\u00a0 So I just hung out behind second watching and planning were to go around him.\u00a0 One the last lap I got around him in the third turn, I put my head down and left him about 3 seconds behind when we crossed the start\/finish line, he had no idea that I was back there that close.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you are setting up your pit at 7am and you are already hot and sweating you know it\u2019s going [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-548","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/548","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=548"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/548\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":592,"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/548\/revisions\/592"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=548"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=548"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/diomederacing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=548"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
