Afterall, bad judgement makes for good stories. This was one of those. I’m really glad I choose to be “fun Kim” and go on the trip.

I went ahead and took Thurs-Mon off for the trip. I used the morning on Thursday to get a lot of stuff prepped and loaded. I did run into some issues with inflating the airbags on the truck. It’s weird that my compressor worked great for the first airbag, but then failed for the second. It didn’t help that the valve stem core was loose. Needless, to say I was freaking out, when I couldn’t get the second airbag to inflate. I’ll admit I actually panicked. Lance to the rescue. He talked my out of the spiral. I got it inflated, and loaded up the last food items. I decided to head off to Lance’s a bit early. Figuring it would be helpful to have some extra time to load. We hit the road once loaded since it was a long drive and I knew I’d be the slowest of the group.

Hammer caught up to us first, the other pulled into the first gas stop shortly after we did. I should have warned them that my truck had a small tank so there were going to be many fuel stops in our future. Did you know 2011 tundra’s only have 25 gallon tank? LOL. The last stop for the day was the most interesting. I miss guessed at when I was going to need to stop and pushed it just a bit further then I would have liked. At last stop for the night, it took 24.66 gallons to fill the tank. I don’t want to do that again, ever. After we all made it to Mal’s we stayed up a bit later then we were all used to doing. It was good to chat thought.

The next morning was burritos from the place I heard was only open whenever they felt like it. They were good, but I’m still not sure how they stay in business. 😛 We did not leave as early as we had said, but we still manage to get to the trials location early enough to check out the sections, sign up, and learn about their classes. I decided to stick to Novice after seen what the next class up had to ride. We had a rib BBQ that evening curtsey of Mal. Konrad did the cooking. We had a great spot close the the sign up, and where the food was going to be on Sat. It was pretty level. We had a great outdoor set up thanks to Hammer. The weather for Fri/Sat was prefect!

I have to say that I like that the riding on Saturday didn’t start riding until 9:45. That extra hour in the am was very nice! The sections were not over the top, but they weren’t easy. Mostly what got to me was riding up creek beds with water in them… I’m from the desert, we don’t do water. LMAO. There was mud everywhere, it was just seeping out of the ground… This is important to remember later… I’m just happy I didn’t do any of my crashes in the water or bad mud.

I finished Saturday, 4th Konrad (3rd) and Lance (1st) finished on the podium on Saturday. The rest of us got a lecture on how poorly we represented NM… I might have gotten Konrad if I’d not 5’d a section that I rode clean the other 2 times, Also the first section got me each time too, but I did clean it the 4th time. Oh well.

Scoring for this club was interesting. They are not used to people watching them carefully. I called a 5 on two of them that wanted to argue about it. A first for me. Although, I did have one of the guys tell as we were trying to get out on Sunday that, he loved the way I handled it. Nice. I really wish I’d take pictures while there I was a really pretty place.

There was a party Saturday Eve with a band, it was a nice party. The people of the NEOTT club are great, super friendly, and loads of fun. They know how to throw a BBQ too!

The next day wasn’t as tricky, but I had one section that I just couldn’t get. I 5’d it the first time, and just out of panic I took 3s the other 2 times. I also picked up points in Lance’s section again. He’s just a brutal scorer. 😉 I’m just really glad that the morning sections didn’t get any of the rain that showed up that day. I did have to go wash my bike, it was so cool that they had a bike washing station! I’ve never had that much mud on any of my trials bikes.

We had gotten out of scoring on Sunday, so we could pack up and be ready to run once the afternoon riders were done. At least that was what we hoped to do. The reality is that Steve’s big Class A motorhome, really should have had 4 wheel drive, he got horribly stuck in the mud I mentioned earlier. It wasn’t bad unless you tried to drive somethin that heavy over it. I did need 4×4 get my trailer out too. I was more lucky that I had backed it into it’s spot instead of needing to back out.

We ended up needing to have a tractor yank the motorhome out of the mud. The tractor made short work of the task. We were off and rolling at an even slower pace toward Mal’s place. The afternoon showers had brought some REALLY NASTY winds. They were all worried about Steve’s rig. I already, knew I was going to be the one who got the short end of the stick for who’s drive was going to suck the most. There were a lot of pucker moments, between the cross wind and the head wind, I got even worse mileage than I did head out. I wasn’t able to relax for the entire 6.5 hours back to Shamrock, I had some arm pump and it screwed up my shoulder and neck. (My neck is still hurting a week later.)

I finally made it to see a Buckees. Interesting place! The burrito I had was awesome! It was kind of nice to not have to move the truck/trailer out of the way. I was very pleased that the drive on Monday was not windy at all!!! It made for much more pleasant trip. I dropped Lance and Konrad at Cline’s Corners. I was also pleased that I didn’t have drive to Lance’s place in Rio Rancho. I would have added hours to my trip. I got home late after noon, to find that all of the plants in the new greenhouse had frozen when that windy cold front came through and were now cooking, since the zipper door was closed. Not the best welcome home, but not the worst either. The guys left their bike in my trailer, so I haven’t been able to clean it out, but I was able to take care of the important things. Next up MWVTA at the end of the month!!!

Great name and even better trip.
