I’m still adjusting my lifestyle to make sure I add as much as I can to this instead of placing it into the trash. It is more a feast and famine cycle for worms. I have LOADS to add to it or I have nothing. I have NO idea what seeds are sprouting in there. My best guess is bell pepper and squash.

I’m sure it is because I’m single and not cooking food on as regular a basis as a family would. I also try to mean prep, so I generally only have things to add once a week, and sometimes only once every few weeks, if I’m traveling.

From the look of the image, I was a couple weeks out from the last feeding. I am still fascinated by these creatures I have to dig around in the bag when feeding them. I call it fluffing the bedding. It seems like they are doing really well. The numbers don’t seem to have dropped any and I keep finding loads of them around food pockets.

I don’t have any idea why I enjoy seeing the worms in clusters around the food, why I’m obsessed with finding a cocoon in the bin, or why in general they give me a warm fuzzy feeling. I’m also just giddy at the idea of making my own worm tea for the garden next summer… It’s just weird.

They all appear healthy and there are lots of different sizes, so they are breeding. It’s a great sign that I’m doing things alright by them.

I’ll be doing my first harvest after January. I want to use the castings for the seeds I’ll be starting.

As you can see in the picture the worms have been hard at work.
