The next weekend I had the August MRA race weekend!<\/p>\n

One of my most favorite places to be, HPR!\u00a0 For this round it was the North course, I hadn\u2019t really ridden it before.\u00a0 I tried.\u00a0 The bike had oil pump issues, I only managed a couple of laps, before having to call it for the weekend.\u00a0\u00a0 This time, I was really ready for it.\u00a0 It seems that I\u2019ve been doing this for so long now that I can get the bike ready to go, as well as, the trailer stocked\/loaded in nothing flat these days.\u00a0 So efficient, that It almost feels like I haven\u2019t done enough to get ready.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll ever get used to that.\u00a0 It might also be that since I\u2019m not racing an entire series, the bike just doesn\u2019t need as much done to over for the season.<\/p>\n

As much as I was looking forward to the weekend, once I arrived at the track, I was having a hard time finding the enthusiasm that I usually have.\u00a0 Maybe, it was more a lack of focus.\u00a0 We all know that that can lead to, right?\u00a0 I will at least give myself credit for spotting it before it lead to a crash.\u00a0\u00a0 I did see a large number of crashes that weekend.\u00a0\u00a0 Some that were avoidable, as well as shocking.\u00a0 More on that later.\u00a0\u00a0 I was sorry I didn\u2019t have the GoPro for the weekend.\u00a0 It was one of the things that threw me on Friday.\u00a0\u00a0 Since it was part of my plan to work on certain things and review the video between sessions.\u00a0 I was also having issue with getting the lap timer with data to work.\u00a0 I had to settle just for lap times.\u00a0\u00a0 I know all of that wasn\u2019t needed, but it is really helpful for finding out where to drop time.\u00a0 I had to settle for pen and paper\u2026.<\/p>\n

I rode on Friday during the lapping day, I really didn\u2019t make much progress with dropping my times.\u00a0 Frustrating.\u00a0 I still feel that the it was more a lack of focus out there, due to frustration and me trying too many things each lap.\u00a0 This showed up when I went to tech too.\u00a0 I had forgotten to wire the rear axle.\u00a0 I never do things like that.<\/p>\n

Saturday practice got off to an interesting start for me.\u00a0 On the first lap out, in turn 11 I watch some guy stoppie off the track and almost run into the back of other riders.\u00a0 Really!\u00a0 Dude!\u00a0 It\u2019s the first friggin lap of PRACTICE.\u00a0 Calm down.\u00a0\u00a0 In a large group, you aren\u2019t going to blow up the inside of over 5 riders, in a group where we all run close to the same lap times.\u00a0\u00a0 It really didn\u2019t get better as far as crashes go.\u00a0\u00a0 There were a number of red flags that day.\u00a0 I heard that the next race weekend was even worse for the number of crashes.\u00a0 It\u2019s the one thing about CO racing that gives me pause up there.<\/p>\n

I talked some with Mark about my issues that evening.\u00a0 He had some great insight, as usually.\u00a0 I have so enjoyed getting to chat with him at the 3 races I went to up there.<\/p>\n

I went out on Sunday with a new found focus and determination.\u00a0 I was dropping time with each outing, by the time I got to the LOR race, I was running able to run times that were just a bit quicker than the rest of the Ladies.\u00a0 I however, got a less than stellar start.\u00a0 I had 2nd<\/sup> going to turn 1, then had couple of the women get a bit in front of me coming into the turn.\u00a0 I had to sit behind them for a couple of turns, I got by them, put my head down.\u00a0 I told myself out loud\u2026 Focus!\u00a0 Hit the Apexes.\u00a0 Get your direction change done. Hard roll onto the gas.\u00a0 It worked.\u00a0 I slowly worked my way closer to the lady running in first.\u00a0 It just wasn\u2019t enough to get in front.\u00a0 By the third race that day I managed my fastest time of the weekend.\u00a0 Just wasn\u2019t soon enough.\u00a0 I figured there was still some places where I could make up more time too.\u00a0\u00a0 Geez, where was this focus when I really needed it on Sat???\u00a0 I spent the better part of the 7 hour trip home beating myself up over my lack of \u2026\u00a0 what do I even call it.\u00a0 Prep, planning, focus, motivation, execution, or good sense?\u00a0 All of them?\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t going to let it happen again.\u00a0 That is too much in terms of resources to have a repeat.<\/p>\n
