Since our plans to play at the MX track were killed. Luis and I went out and rode some single track. I pick him and his bike up, we drove out to the Buckman area and we unloaded. It was another perfect day. Faux winter being one of my favorite NM seasons. 😛
We didn’t really get off to a great start, not 1 minute from the truck, heading up the first hill. Luis had some trouble and rode off the trail. I didn’t stop, because I figured a. he’s out of the way b. if I do I’ll have to back down the hill and try again. I should have stopped. He came back on right in front of me. Me, being a dirt noob, used the front brake and throttle. I stood the bike up, and did a 180 on the rear tire. Don’t ask me how, I managed it. Once I was mostly aimed back down the hill, that front brake use caused me to pile drive my left knee into the ground… It took me about 5 minutes to pull it together and attempt to get the bike back up. Only to drop it again, 30 seconds later. Yup, the first 10 minutes were some of the most exciting for the day. After that I figured we should just keep going, what else could happen? The worst would be to get lost and not make it back to the truck before dark, right? Well we did get lost.
Other, then riding almost all the way to White Rock and Pojoaque, we did pretty good. I fell one more time. It was almost as good as the first one. There just wasn’t anyone around to see me laying on my back with the bike on top of me. It funny how sand can get into so many irritating spots. It was a very long day, 6.5 hours instead of the 2 we had planned on, but oh well. I had a great time.
