2026 firsts so far in January. NMTA Banquet, at the Santa Fe Sky’s RV park was a good time. It was nice to see almost everyone. It’s nice seeing people all cleaned up and in something other than riding gear. I received a plaque and vest for my 2nd place finish in Novice for 2025. Shame, that I didn’t get to do all the events to get the Ironman award too. This year! It helps that there won’t be as many events. I have gotten more practice in already this year then I did last year.
I’ve made progress on getting the trailer sorted out so it is fully functional again. I’m still ticked at myself about not being more careful. I really miss having a toilet in the trailer, port a toilets, stink! I’ve got appts lined up for getting the things fixed that I can’t do myself, unfortunately, that is most of things that need to get fixed.
We have had some snow along with some dang cold winds. My least favorite thing ever…. I guess we are starting winter now. More snow please.
As you can see it isn’t nearly enough to offset our persistent drought. We did get some snow on the last day from that storm of the century…. pft. Just enough that I had to sweep the snow in the drive so it didn’t ice up when the sun started to melt it. Not enough to shovel, but at least it did cover the ground for a few hours.
Cool reflection in the sliding door glass.
It’s like winter is teasing us. I had really big hopes for that storm of the century…
Since the racoon incident, I’ve been turning on the patio lights more for Sable. She is still leery of going out the doggy door when it is dark out. She has gotten really good at letting me know when I need to turn the lights on for her, or go outside with her. She really is a smart lil brat, princess, no, I mean dog.
The seeds that I started January 1st are doing fantastic!!!! I’m going to have to plant up a number of them into larger pots this week. It’s kind of cool. I think I started some of them too soon, but time will tell. If I didn’t have plans for this weekend I’d work on getting them all done. Next weekend, I’ll get them all moved so they will be happier. I’ll also start some new ones. The forecasts are that we are going to have another year with warmer than usual spring. I should be able to start moving things to the garden plots in April. Watering everything will be the sticking point. Likely, I’ll have to haul water down with the truck a few times a week. Until the City turns the water on.
Can you tell from the picture which ones need to be done this week? The dill is going crazy. I’ll be adding more fertilizer to the water going forward. I also need to get a fan in the room to help them get a little bit hardier.
The Nasturtiums also need to be planted up this week. They are growing like weeds. Shame they slow down in the heat of summer. They start and end the year doing so well with so many flowers.
The garlic in the garden plot is coming up… It’s hard to see against the straw, but it’s there.

I did pick up some stakes so I can make hoops for the new flower bed by the garage. It’s ready to go with some frost tolerant seeds that I’ll be putting in there in the next few weeks.

Once March gets a bit closer, I’ll start getting the rest of this area set up with pots and other things I’d like to move over to this side.
I’ve been toying with the idea of putting drip irrigation into place so I don’t have to hand water everything any more. Now that I’ve done a fair bit of research it seems like it would be a great addition to the yard. Not to mention it wouldn’t be as expensive as I thought it would be. I can easily added 2 watering zones inside the yard and 2 more to the garage side. So I’ll be going back to the plans I have worked up to see about where I could run the lines.
