First Trials event of the year… or the last depending on how you want to look at it.

I really do enjoy taking the time between Christmas and New Year’s off. It’s a great way to reset after the craziness of the holidays. This year’s Hair of the Dog happened on Dec 29th, so I was actually home for New Year’s. Lucky for me the A-hole neighbor who set off fireworks is gone, so it was actually quiet.
Just like past couple of years, it was the perfect weekend for an event. I was running around in a tee shirt when the sun was out. Huge step up from living in Alaska!!! The best part of these events is the getting there early and the time spent hangin out with the crazy founding members of HPTA. I have to admit that going to this one is just for practice and fun. Which is quite nice.
This event was also to see if I was going to be getting a new bike. If Mal liked his new Mecatecno than I was getting his 2024 Beta 250, which is a down right sexy bike.
Turns out he didn’t like the new electric bike. So I spent a few hours on it. I did like it, but it was a bit out of the price range I had. Lance on the other hand love riding it. It’s looking like I’m getting a new beta later in the season. I still can’t get over just how light that bike is. Barely over a 115 lbs.
I had a great time, it looks like I’m getting better at this stuff. Just not fast enough… I’m sure it would help if I rode more often and actually practiced other than at events. I was shocked to see just how much time Mal puts in practicing on his bikes. At least an hour every day!!!
As usual, the tents were set up, there were at least 3 propane fire pits going every evening, loads of food for and from all, not to mention a fair bit of libations.
The terrain here just has so many options for sections. Not sure how it happened, but I was the trials master. I never volunteered. I just was in the ranger when dropping off setting materials at sections.

The last night there was the most fun, I’ve had in a few years…. So how it turned into a 70’s music guess the song and the lyrics. That had 10 of us singing at the top of our lungs for hours. I was hoarse the next day and had a sore throat for a couple more after that.
