Later in the day on Thursday was a sunset ride to the lost city was on the docket. I had to have my skills vetted in order to participate in this ride. We lost just shy of half the riders by the time we reached the city. I thought it was fun, but it was work riding 5+ miles of river bed with sm baby head rocks. The views were worth it!!!
Friday was more of a street ride with sightseeing.
Saturday I was really wanting to see the mine shaft that you can ride into. Another very easy ride. I should have gone for the harder dirt ride it ended up sound way more fun.
I need to pull the video and pictures of the helmet camera for this….. I’ll update it shortly.
Sunday I started my drive back to NM. First stop was just outside of Vegas. I found a camp spot off a dirt road down to lake Mead.
Sable was just too cute that night… she wanted to go explore the area around the trailer for a couple of hours. We both slept in the next day.
Monday I made it to Prescott to see David and Debbie. We did a few nice long walks while I was there. I have to say that I-40 from Kingman AZ to the turn off for Prescott was the most horrible section of road that I have ever driven. The pot holes were so bad it was pissing me off. I had to stop a few times, just to calm down, it was making Sable stress out.
After a couple of days there, I was heading off to Prewitt, NM. I made it a point to stay off I-40 until I got to Winslow AZ. From there to Prewitt the road wasn’t too bad. I did discover how they move bees around… Yes, that tractor trailer is loaded with bee hives. There were bees following it. I had to keep my windows up while stopped for road construction.
Next up was Chris’ property were NMTA was holding it’s April event. Chris had given me permission to show up early. There was cell service there so I was able to do some work and hang out until the NMTA Trials event.
It’s a really stunning place, looks like Moab.
I’m glad I got there on Wednesday. The wind the next day was so bad, that I was actually worried that the trailer was going to get blown over onto it’s side!! The two porta potties that were delivered that day blew over. Not a bad time to spent the day working. The views from the window were great.
Again, Sable was insisting on multiple walks each day… I can’t blame her.
Friday was riding the trials bike around to see what the sections were going to look like. I also did a bit of hiking out on the mesas. The views were great. What a nice piece of property.
I did a big bike ride with Dee on Sat after doing some training. It was good to see Geneva out on her trials bike too. After that we walked each of the sections, I shouldn’t do that before they get clerked. I got a five for missing a gate for my troubles.
Being it was April fools day… a few of the bikes were relocated when it got dark out. It didn’t take me long to find my bike that evening when I was on my way to bed. I did lock it up after that.
The next day was not my best trials event.. My score wasn’t great and it was the first time that trials made me cry. I ended up with a 5 for missing a gate in section 4, then there was the tipping over, for another 5. Then there was section 7. I tried a line that seemed like it would be easier but, no. I don’t know how I managed it, but my right leg ended up getting caught by the rear wheel. It pulled it up and slammed it into the fender. I was sitting on the rear fender, with my leg stuck in front of me, the bike was still running. My left leg was trapped under the bike. It took four people to get me extracted from the bike. Yes. It was bad. Yes, it hurt like hell. I got back on the bike rode section 8. I went back to the trailer so I could have a melt down where no one could see it.
After about 20 mins of Sable trying to make me feel better, 4 advil and 2 alieve. I went back out to ride my two other loops. I got yet another 5, there was a log that hadn’t been there before I hit and stalled the bike. Not really my day. After I was done I went back to the trailer for another melt down.
I turned in my card a bit later, I also asked Cade if he would score for me in the afternoon. Since the swelling in my knee was getting much worse. It was sticking out about 3 inches. He and Steve helped me pack up the trailer so I could head home. It took about 3 days for the color to show up.
I did get it xrayed, there wasn’t any obvious damage the replacement. Yes, it was the same leg I had the knee replacement on 2 years ago. I was told it was a bad hematoma it was likely that it would take up to 4 months for it to get back to normal.
