My life has been so hectic that by the time it came to leave for Greece, I really needed this vacation. Don’t get me wrong, I get a great deal of time off from my really life job, but most of that time is so that I can do other job related things…. As much as I love the teaching, training, and competing, it’s still tied to work for me since I do it for money. There are times when I really wish that I didn’t do so much coaching.
This was the first real vacation that I have had in a number of years. I hadn’t been to Europe since I was in College. Greece had always been on the top of my bucket list. So when Jim said he was going to do the Hellas Rally over there, along with the promise of my being able to come over to visit and travel with him. I figured that it would be a great time to go. I didn’t have a clue when we talked about this that he would find himself a new girlfriend and that she would move into the Roamer with him. So that kind of complicated the plans as he and I had worked out. Now, since we are really just great friends, I really just want him to be happy. That said, I made the decision after talking with him some more to go ahead and do the trip anyway. It would just be more expensive since I was going to have to find places to stay and arrange transportation while I was there.
I found what looked like two great apartments to rent while I was there. The first one was .2 miles from the city center. Awesome! It was exactly like it showed on booking.com, I loved it. Being right there was perfect, it allowed me to walk to everything that I wanted to go see while I was in Athens.
Dinner my first night there.
I was beat and starving once I got there. The flights over did not go very smoothly. Heathrow airport is a clusterF*ck, I almost missed my flight to Athens. Even though it left 30 minutes late. (I moved seats on that flight, since there were two kids behind me constantly kicking my seat. I almost lost it with their father, who did nothing even after I asked him very nicely to have his children stop it.)
I went for a walk before I crashed for the night.
There isn’t any way for me to cover everything I saw or did on this trip for this blog. It was amazing, I’m going to just hit the highlights.
My last day in Athens I decided to take a cruise to three different islands. It was totally worth it.
The next day I got a cab to the airport so I could pick up my rental car. From here it was off to Korinthos for the Hellas Rally to meet up with Jim and his new girlfriend.
