My usual MO is that, I kind of over committed myself to a number activities. I had scheduled a MSF class for the weekend, I arranged for the YCRS to come to Sandia to give a Champ day on Monday, the next weekend was the first SMRI track day and race for the 2022 season.

The last two I did intentionally, as I wanted the class as close to the first event as we could get it. The first one was just because it was one of the few free weekends that I had. I don’t get many of those.

I really should have found someone else to cover the MSF class for the weekend, but it had been too long since I taught a class that I didn’t want to give this one up. I’m really glad I didn’t. The class was a good one. We had some great students. I just need to make sure I pay more attention to the actual start time and not just what I think it is… I was late on Sat, but so was the other coach so I didn’t feel as bad. I’m really glad that we were able to get through everything so we didn’t have to reschedule the students. It many speaks to how good the students were, had they not been such good students we wouldn’t have finished.

Sunday I had to leave to be down there earlier than usual, for two reasons. First we started earlier. Second, I was driving the trailer down, so that I could meet the YCRS coaches at the track to form a plan for the next day.

I seem to be in some sort of pattern that when I get to the race track, the worse wind of the day is at that exact same time. After setting up the trailer, I was off to run a few errands to prep for the YCRS day. After that was done I met with Scott and Mike at the track. We drove the configs to determine the one they wanted to use on Monday. We came up with a game plan. With the wind we decided to finish set up on Monday am.

There were 25 riders for the day, I was so pleased with how the day went. The YCRS instructors did a great job. All of the riders showed up ready to learn. The day went long, so we didn’t leave until well after 5p, but there wasn’t a single crash for the day.

I had to be back to the track on Friday eve, to check in and get ready for the weekend. Ken was doing his first class as new rider director. He had 6 students, not bad for the first class of the season.

Saturday got off to a early start. I was very happy that we have a good gate person again this year. He has to be there early to get the people who so up super early to get ready. I am not a morning person, so it’s a struggle for me to get ready to take care of that. Once I leave the trailer in the morning it is just go – go until the track goes hot for the first few sessions. Then it settles down. From that point on I just have to deal with the small fires that come up. By the time the day ends, I’m really ready for it to be done.

For the most part it was a good day, there was a corner worker who didn’t show up so I had to find someone to cover until they arrived. There were a few crashes, but luckily the ambulance wasn’t needed. There was confusion about the schedule. There were some issues with the schedule that needed to be fixed. Overall, it was a great first event for the club. The prize money for ULGP went over really well with everyone.

Once the weekend was over it was time for me to start packing for my trip to Greece. Esp, since I was leaving on Tuesday morning, super early.
