What a weekend!

The track day I taught the race school for one more student.  She really wanted to attend and get her license before next season.  When they are that excited, it’s hard to say no.  Besides, I wanted to teach as many new racers as I could.  It worked out well as I had two others who hadn’t finished so she did her mock race with them.

As much as I love racing I am pretty happy once the season wrapping up.  It gives me time to miss it.  I really wasn’t in a racing frame of mind for this wknd.  I had pretty much decided that I was done racing at Sandia and was ready to move on.  Now, I would say this was going to be my last race, but I know that I’ll never stick to that.  At some point next year I’ll want to grid up.

The only race that I had to really work hard at was the Thunderbike race.  I had to finish in front of Ed to wrap up 3rd place.  I got one of the worst starts I’ve had in ages…. but!  I was in front of Ed.  I really don’t like the new config, so I’m not fast on it.  I knew that Ed rides this one pretty well.  I needed to put my head down to get some space between us.  I managed to gap him in about 3 laps, by that point I had a nice rhythm going.  I managed to increase the gap and finish 3rd in the race.

The rest of the races were for “fun”,  it’s funny when I don’t really care where I place, I have great races.  I ride well and finish well.  Go figure.

The only down side to the whole weekend was the number crashes we had during the race day.  Things were so delayed that we cut the number of laps down so that we could finish before it got dark.  We just made it too, it was the longest race day we’ve had in years.  There were 2 people transported, along with 3 others that took themselves later.  It had nothing to do with other racers or the track, they just made really bad judgement calls for most of them.
