Looking back I should have seen this coming.  The past three years we’ve run into weather issues with the first couple events at the track.  One year is was snow for the May 1st track day.  The past two it’s been the wind for the track day and race day wknds.  The weather forecast of course didn’t look good, but when is that ever really accurate?

The saturday track day started off so wonderful, that I figured it was going turn out alright.  I managed to get some great laps in, it was AWESOME not having to be in the office for registration.  I just didn’t know what to do with myself, I wasn’t rushing around like a crazed person trying to get time in on the track.  I even to got be there for the entire rider’s meeting!

Since it was on the chilly side I skipped the first session for the expert group.  I did go out in the int and nov groups on the 250.  The bike felt great, it was the first time I’d gotten to ride since Brian over at Speedin’ Motosports changed out the fork seals, changed brake pads and finally got the air out of the brake lines.  I had tried, but just couldn’t get it to work as well as it should have.  Poor B-Childress can vouch for how bad the brakes on it were.

I managed some of my best lap times to date on it for the 3 sessions I did with it.  I also got the 675 out for about 3 sessions as well, it felt great too. I was hoping in the afternoon I would have time to work on suspension settings.  I feel comfortable enough now to that I want to try drastically changing the settings and seeing how it feels so I can work on dialing the bike in a bit more.

However once we stopped for lunch the winds started and by the time we were ready to go back out on the track, the dirt was flyin’.   I put both bikes back into the trailer and called it a day.  I’ve ridden out there when it is like that before and it’s just scary.  I thought we should have just called it, but they thought it would be okay for the rest of the day.  As it turns out they called it and closed down the track about an hour later…. I really don’t like being right about these things… really.  😀
