Next up was the Big Dunes OHV area outside of Pahrump.

I got there late in the day on Sunday, so ended up having the whole area pretty much to myself!!!

Since I was totally alone out there, I only went for a short 50 min spin around the dunes.  Sable and I did a number of walks around and in the sand.  It was a great area for getting some sand practice in.  If I had been feeling braver I would have tried to do some hill climbs. Even with an inreach I’m not that brave.  I also wasn’t willing to take the risk with the whole week of riding ahead of me.

I was off to Death Valley the next day after another tour of the area.

My first look at Death Valley!!!

I stopped at the first set of Dunes I hit in DV. Outside of the visitor parking, so I could get Sable out to stretch her legs. Found some really interesting tracks in the sand.

I made it to Panamint Springs Campground about mid day. They had given my spot to another person so I had a different spot for the first few nights. It was a great one too.

Yeah, that would a before shot before the awning detached from the trailer. Not the first time, I’ll just have to see about doing a better fix job this time.

Overlooking the rest of the campground.

I like the look of the mods….

Enjoyed lunch after getting everything set up. Then it was time to take a short ride to check a couple of things that were close to the camp grounds.

Crowley Point… just missed the jet fighter running the canyon. It was a fun ride up to the point.

Got to meet a few of the neighbors. Great guys, and one of them had a lot of oranges he picked from his own tree! They tasted great!

Sable made friends, of course!! I couldn’t get over how cold it was. I was very happy to have had the hookup for electricity. I ended up using my space heater a lot more than I thought I would. It rained all day Tuesday, so I didn’t do any rides. Instead, I wandered around to meet people, took a long nap, and took Sable for walks on the “trails” that someone had made around the camp grounds.

A rare selfie.

The snow level dropped after all the rain.

Wednesday I took a scouting ride with a group going to see if there was too much snow for the noob ride planned for Thursday. I’m going to say no… but not everyone enjoys riding in snow like I do.

Don had a great time playing around in it….

I was not dressed properly for the cold, I’m glad I didn’t get wet too.

After that it was off to Skido point.

move views from Sable's walks

Thursday it was off to Ballrat Trading Post. Fun and easy ride so I took Sable in her backpack. I did discover that she will try to superman out of the pack if I don’t remember to hook her in. I’m sure it was actually commentary on my riding. Since it was right after I hit a g-out way too fast. I’m just glad she wasn’t hurt.

I bailed out on hitting the same stuff we had ridden the day before. So I headed back to the camp ground stopping off the check out the Panamint Springs Dunes. Yes, dunes/sand was my theme for this trip.
