The first weekend was for the NATC – National Trials event @ Haystack OHV, Roswell NM
Since the NMTA was going to have an event the next weekend I got permission to work remotely that week. So I had great views, I got to ride the trials bike every day during my lunch hour, as well as right after I logged off for the day.
That first weekend I was helping out by scoring sections. Great fun, even if I’m not the best scorer, I’m too forgiving of errors.
Since I was scoring for the weekend, it meant hanging out at one section for the day. I was really impressed to watch the upper levels ride.
The pro line was just flat scary to me. It was great meeting people from all over in person, a number of them I’ve gotten to know from online trials forums, but in person is much better.
The loop was 6 miles long with 12 sections the riders had to ride 3x. I took a few days off before hand just so could burn up some of my extra PTO, the use it or lose it for vacation is annoying and nice at the same time. (There are years where I wish they’d let me roll over more than 40 hrs from one year to the next. It’s hard to use up 6 weeks every year. On the other hand I’d like to take a long trip for more than a month on others, like I did 6 years ago when I went to Alaska on the motorcycle. )
Back to the event, the loop was a blast on the days I rode it, the deep sand was still wet from the storm earlier in the week. Which made it perfect. By the time the event came around the sand was drier and I know they weren’t having as much fun riding it as I did. They had some great weather for their weekend. I didn’t bring enough water for Sable on the first day. She is such an awesome companion.
She just hung out enjoying being out where the action was.
I don’t see me riding anything like this ever!!!
There are far worse places to have to spend a week. The views were just awesome, Sable enjoyed her multiple walks each day.
