I think that is a very good heading for my SLC visit with Mike and Kristy. Last year when I came to visit them. We did a trail out at American Forks, the ride that day had to be cut short due to me falling over and basically breaking my face on the edge of a log.
So when I rolled in to Mike’s on Tuesday, the question was did I want to go back there to try it out with the new KTM. My answer? Hellz Yeah!
I should have guessed that it would end up being a rather interesting ride again. We left Mike’s place later in the afternoon. Traffic was horrible, reminded me of why I live in a small town. Once there we started to gear up. My first indication of the type of ride was when Mike asked me if I knew what time sunset was? lol.
As you can see the sun was going down, but we weren’t in a hurry or concerned yet….
This was at the top, we headed out to start our way back to the truck. I had a couple of tip overs on a rocky section after this.
I wasn’t really worried, from what I could remember from the last time I was there. Going down the hill went really quickly. LOL!!! Only we didn’t go back down the same trail.
I still don’t have any idea of where we were. I had a headlight so I was just cruising down the trail. I came upon a meadow and figured I wait for those two to catch back up. I was waiting a LONG time. So long that I was starting to think I’d taken a wrong turn. It had been getting kind of dark in the trees. So I figured they’d slowed down a bit as Mike didn’t have a headlight. I could hear the two-stroke rolling down the trail toward me, so I stayed where I was. When they got to me, I realized that Kristy’s headlight wasn’t on. Odd. It was then that Mike told me her headlight wasn’t working at all. Opps. That meant I was the only one with a headlight. Bummer.
Since I was the one with the headlight, Mike thought I should lead. I headed off down the trail, thinking I was going slow enough. When I stopped to check behind me, they weren’t in sight. I waited again for them. Then I said that Kristy should go in front of me so I wouldn’t leave them and maybe my headlight would help her out. That worked for a bit. Then it just got too dark. All she could see was the sides of the trail. Mike, than had the idea to take the cell phone he used for nav, he turned on the flashlight. That seemed to help her out even more. There was still a few spots where she paddled the bike down and I wanted to just send it down. Tricky going.
It was very slow going, I’m still not sure how we ended up where we did. I didn’t even know there was a sub division, below the trail head. That’s where we ended up. It took a few turns up into driveways before we figured out how to get to the main road.
Yes, it was really dark when we got back to the van. I was surprised to see that we weren’t alone in the parking lot.
I just couldn’t help myself, I kept laughing about the whole thing the rest of the evening. Mike, was glad that I found it funny. Although, he did say that if it had been me who set them up like that, we might not be friends after it. lol.
