This is the second event I’ve attended that they’ve hosted. Both of them were well organized, had good food, good company, and great riding. This was also my second stay at the Red Mountain RV park and Motel. They did an awesome job, handling all of the people that just showed up without a reservation. Just like they did when I was there for an RMAR event a few years back.
Trying to balance work and play sometimes just doesn’t go as I would like it to. We had some IT issues at work so I came into work on Wednesday morning instead of getting the last few things ready for the trip. As things worked out I didn’t need to be there, so I went ahead and left for the day. Knowing I’d have to check in later to see if the update worked on the system. (It didn’t… not a shocker.) So there was plans for pushing out another patch on Sunday. It was looking like I’d have to come into work on Monday. (a holiday, of course. Needless, to day, the release got pushed out a few more days. So I didn’t have to work on Monday.) Yippee!! I spent the the day getting things ready, packing up the trailer, and getting propane. I should have headed out in the evening, but I really glad I didn’t.
On the way up I figured I stop by to one of my favorite moto shops. Speedin’ Motorsports, to see Brian.
I picked up some supplies while I was there… oil, filters, and such. On the way to the truck I noticed that one of the trailer tires was really low. I knew that meant it had to be replaced. I found a shop that could replace it so I could still make it up to Silverton. I just ended up getting there after dark. Not my favorite to drive winding roads, with wildlife, in the dark, not to mention trying to park in the dark. Things worked out, I had the spot I wanted, great moto neighbors that I had met at WestFest last year, and got to get reacquainted with others from the last TT adventure.
The next day I was trying to figure out what to ride, I chatted with Doug to find out he was planning on riding by himself. So I changed plans so I could go with him. No one should ride alone. It was a great day for riding Cinnamon and Engineer passes.
There was a great dinner that night, with door prizes and raffles. I gave my ticket to Doug. He did great, got me some nice prizes.
Next day was a big bike look with Mike and Kristy. I took Sable for this one. It was going to be her longest day on the bike. She really did great. We rode from Silverton down to Durango to Telluride, had a great lunch, and back to Silverton.
That night after dinner with Mike and Kristy, I had way too much to drink. I really wasn’t feeling well the next day. So I left the campground much later than I would have liked. It also meant I didn’t go for a ride that day. Instead, I hung out in the lawn chair and read. I finally felt better after about 1pm. So I slowly packed up the trailer to head home. I really should have left sooner….
Just outside of Farmingtion, I noticed the trailer moving around more than normal. So I stopped at the next gas station to find this…
“You’ve gotta be F’ing kidding me!!!!” That put me at 3 trips and 3 flats. Really glad I had a spare, I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t gotten the last flat fixed in Farmington on the way up.
After figuring out how to get the tire off and the spare on. The rest of the trip was uneventful. Thankfully!
Needless, to say the one remaining tire that wasn’t new and the destroyed one were replaced with new tires when I got back to Santa Fe. For the record, yes, I check the pressures every time I take the trailer out.
