What can I say, I’m huge fan of the YCRS program. I knew I needed a tune up. It was a great opportunity, I had the time, I had the cash, and I really wanted to get on HPR again. Perfect!
I drove up there the day before, after I finished at work. I would have rather had the day off, but since the gates weren’t open for the us to go in and set up it didn’t’ matter really when I got there. I took my time, I still arrived at the track with enough time to get a good nights sleep. I brought Sable with me, this would be her fourth trip with me in the trailer. The first two were to T or C to play around on the dirt bikes. The third was to the Endro in Farmington. This would be her first trip in the truck that was over 3 hours, she travels well, she seems to really enjoy the new locations. Just like the other trips she was a champ.
When the gates opened in the morning, we all filed in. I picked a spot in the carports, of course, that way I could avoid running my generator. I find it annoying, I know by now it should be background noise at the track, but it just irritates me. Than it was time to get the bike unloaded, get everything together so that I had the things I needed where I wanted them. You know, how it is.
I really enjoy doing schools on the bike. The feedback is so useful, lets me know if I’ve gotten away from where I should be with the riding. This one helped me figure out why I’m having issues with dropping laptimes.
It comes down to EYES… It was the last two sessions of the day for me, I had Chris Peris working with me for them. He asked me to go back out and to pay attention to where I was getting to full throttle and when in the turn did I see my exits?
After two laps I figured out that I wasn’t getting 100% throttle anywhere but the front straight, second I wasn’t seeing the exits until I was passed my apexes. Sigh, it makes so much sense now as to why I’m not dropping my times like they should be. I have a major thing to work on now for a while.
I was telling Jim about this revelation that I had at the track. He was quick to point out that he’d been fussing at me for the same things on our dirt rides. doh… He has too!
